Recently, Battlestar Galactica co-stars Katee Sackhoff and Jamie Bamber spoke about issues of sexism in the film and television industry at Dallas Comic Con.
This isn’t the first time Sackhoff has spoken on the issue. In San Diego earlier this year, she related the story of having her arms pulled from their sockets while filming BSG, and told the audience bluntly: “This business in our world is hard on women.”
It’s important for us as viewers to keep Ms. Sackhoff’s personal experiences in mind as we enjoy the work she and other women in the business continue making in a culture that still clings to inequality. And her and Bamber’s professional experiences are instructive for those currently working or hoping to join the industry as a professional.
We need to know the problems if we are going to correct them and create a culture of equality and compassion.
