The Stake has covered the upcoming Firefly/Serenity continuation from Dark Horse Comics a few times since it was announced last year. It seems appropriate to let our readers know that tomorrow is the release date for issue #1.
Executive Produced by Joss Whedon (?), Serenity is written by his brother Zack Whedon and illustrated by Georges Jeanty-of Buffy Seasons 8 and 9. Serenity: Leaves on the Wind picks up 9 months after the beloved (around here, anyway) television show and film left off.
It’s never easy to pick up a series in another medium. Fans are already fervent, protective and never easy to please when it comes to likeness and continuations. And though Jeanty did a more than admirable job with the Buffy crew for seasons 8 and 9, the stories that carried over are hit or miss at best, with many being decidedly less engaging than Buffy the Vampire Slayer the show, and some are downright terrible. But BTVS is another property, and I’m excited to check out Serenity: Leaves on the Wind, nine years after the film’s conclusion.
The word over at Geeks of Doom is promising, at Nerdist its even better.
So, head out tomorrow and pick it up if you’re so inclined.
