True Detective was one of the great pop culture events of 2014—we’ll see if Season 2 can live up.
I’m hopeful that it will. The first teaser trailer is here, and while it doesn’t reveal much—teasers never do—it does have that creepy/foreboding/world-weary True Detective feel, and will do a lot to get people excited for the new season.
There’s no dialogue, but the teaser features a great song (intro music for the new episodes?), and lots of great brooding by the new lead actors. Rachel McAdams does kickass cop things, Taylor Kitsch mostly flashes his Tim Riggins face, and behind that mustache Colin Farrell looks like a guy who’s seen some shit, man. Best of all may be Vince Vaughan as what looks like a legitimately terrifying villain with some dope staring-contest skills.
Season 2 starts June 21. It’s going to be a good summer.
